Project Saluting Freedom

My name is Candace Olsen and as a senior at Summerville High School, I am responsible to complete a senior project. My respect and gratitude for Veterans is abundant. I am reaching out to our wonderful and generous community to help raise money to complete a very important and respected project in our area. In an effort to help the Tuolumne Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4748 complete a memorial intended to add to the tradition of honoring veterans and those who have lost their lives while serving and protecting our country, I will be hosting a unique and one of a kind fundraiser on February 22, 2019, at the Sonora Opera Hall. This event will consist of a delicious BBQ by The Sierra’s Table, live music by Reno premier country/rock band, Left of Centre, a fabulous silent auction and an exciting live auction.

Two years ago, on February 16, 2016, the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved the proposed memorial on the east lawn of the Tuolumne Veterans Memorial Hall, in the Township of Tuolumne. Due to lack of funds, this project missed its completion date of Fall 2017. This 9/11 Global War on Terrorism Memorial is intended to honor all who lost their lives that tragic day and all the uniformed services that continue to keep us safe; Law Enforcement, EMT/Medics, Firefighters and our Military.

This will be a multi-use memorial forum where Memorial and Veterans Day ceremonies can be held as well as other events. The memorial will feature a brick walkway leading to an elevated platform with a flagpole and stone plaques honoring those who served and lost their lives. It will also house artifacts from the Twin Towers, The Pentagon, and The Shanksville Museum. For a complete and detailed description, you can visit vfwpost4748.org/911-memorial. The project was expected to cost between $30,000 and $40,000 and was originally going to be funded largely through community donations, area grants, and selling commemorative bricks that would be installed at the memorial. My goal is to help raise the funds needed to finish this amazing project. To meet my goal, and establish a firm foundation for the upcoming fundraiser I am reaching out to businesses, Veterans organizations, law enforcement agencies, firefighters, first responders, and service clubs and asking them to sponsor this memorial. I am hoping to find as many sponsors as possible to make a huge impact on this event. While any donation is greatly appreciated, I am also offering two specific sponsorship options:

  • At the $500 level sponsors will receive a 4 x 8 commemorative brick placed within the memorial stating the sponsor’s name and/or message, the sponsor’s name/logo on the welcome and advertisement banner, social media advertisement, and an announcement of the sponsor several times throughout the evening.brick
  • At the $1000 level sponsors will receive an 8×8 commemorative paver placed within the memorial stating the sponsor’s name and/or message, 4 tickets to the event, the sponsor’s name/logo on the welcome and advertisement banner, social media advertisement, and announcement of the sponsor several times throughout the evening.
